Hoop dancing is as much a part of native heritage as is the teepee. Formal hoop dancing competitions have competitors using anywhere up to 30 hoops or more are held in various places around the world including Vancouver BC and Edmonton Alberta, but the most popular is in Phoenix Arizona. Dancers use the hoops to create shapes such as birds, snakes and butterflies while also incorporating unique footwork. World famous hoop dancers include Tony Duncan, Moontee Sinquah , Charles Denny and Alex Wells.
